SUBSTANCE OF VERY HIGH CONCERN ANALYSIS
SUBSTANCE OF VERY HIGH CONCERN ANALYSIS INFORMATION PAGE
Companies may have legal obligations resulting from the inclusion of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in the Candidate List following the European Union REACH regulation (EC No. 1907/2006). The SVHC Candidate List consists of a variety of chemicals including organic and inorganic substances. Obligations refer not only to the listed substances on their own or in mixtures but also to their presence in articles when certain conditions are met.
EBO may assist members of the supply chain and determine the existence of SVHC in their products. This webpage is for EBO clients to understand how this group of substances is deduced.
The analytical approach is in line with requirements and recommendations of the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) and represents today’s best practice. When direct detection of a substance cannot be achieved through a direct test method, preliminary determination (screening) of whether such substances exist in an article, a mixture or a substance may be deduced from circumstantial evidences. In this case test results are based on indirect identification of SVHC by selected marker substances and the calculation of corresponding SVHC in a worst-case scenario approach.
With regard to the limitation of the screening method, the manufacturer of an article, a mixture or a substance may decide whether SVHC communication or other actions are necessary. Such decision may be based on the actual situation of manufacturing processes even if the screening process suggests positive SVHC findings.
A description of the indirect identification methods of certain SVHC can be read by clicking the substance on the right hand column.
